Daniel Allen is a New York City-based scenic designer specializing in theater, opera, and live events. His diverse portfolio encompasses classic and contemporary works, reflecting a comprehensive and balanced approach to design that emphasizes collaboration. As Daniel puts it, “…I want to tell really impactful stories with teams of really brilliant people.”

Some of his past designs have been seen at The Jungle, The Tank, Richmond Triangle Players, 5th Wall, Cape Fear Regional, Pittsburgh Playhouse, UARTS Theater, Firehouse Theater, The New School, Connecticut College, Cocoa Village Playhouse (where he has served as a season designer since 2019), and Ithaca College, among others.
In addition to his design work, Daniel has served as an assistant and associate to designers on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in regional and international theaters. Some of his favorite collaborations have included productions at venues such as Circle in the Square (Broadway), LG Arts Center (Korea), 2nd Stage (Tony Kiser & 2nd Stage Uptown), Lincoln Center Theater, Manhattan Theater Club, Roundabout Theater Company, The Guthrie, The Old Globe, Page 73, Goodspeed, The Wilma, Roundhouse, Wolf Trap Opera, The McCarter, Berkeley Rep, Signature Theater, South Coast Rep, Long Wharf, The Alley, Pennsylvania Shakespeare, Williamstown Theater Festival, Dallas Theater Center, La Jolla Playhouse, Cleveland Playhouse, Shakespeare Theater DC, ACT, and New York City Center (Encores).
Daniel has had the privilege of collaborating with prominent designers such as Tobin Ost, Lawrence Moten, Rachel Hauck, Arnulfo Maldonado, Wilson Chin, Lee Savage, Meredith Ries, Allen Moyer, Donyale Werle, Adam Rigg, and Ryan Howell.
Raised in Richmond, Virginia, Daniel discovered his passion for theater, design, and the arts within the vibrant community of his upbringing. Richmond’s rich arts, historical, and culinary heritage continues to influence his thoughtful, objective approach to storytelling through design. Outside of his professional endeavors, Daniel enjoys balancing his work life with time spent with family and friends or relaxing by the beach.
