FRANK J. OLIVA (Scenic Designer) is a Cuban-American Production Designer for Stage & Film, working primarily on new plays. Frank has designed the US Premieres of Daniel MacIvor’s Communion (Urban Stages) and Juliet Palmer’s SWEAT (Center for Contemporary Opera) as well as the NY/World Premieres of Steve DiUbaldo’s Exposure (Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre / MiddleVoice), Jeremy J. Kamps’ Gutting (National Black Theatre), Max Posner’s Sisters on the Ground (co-design/Eric Southern, Playwrights Horizons Downtown), Andrew Farmer & Andrew Butler’s Blessing: A New Southern Gothic Musical (Playwrights Horizons Downtown) and Christian Durso’s SHINER (The NOLA Project).

Frank’s work has also been presented at The Guthrie Theatre, Playwrights Horizons Downtown, Urban Stages, National Sawdust, Repertório Español, Kitchen Theatre Co., Curtain Call Theatre Co., The GYM at Judson, Cloud City, Dixon Place, The NOLA Project and Area Stage Company.

Film work includes Production Design for several short & feature films, including Late Expectations (2015), Like Me (2014), Borders (2013, co-Production Design with Sara C. Walsh), A Girl, A Cat, A Bomb (2013, Art Director) and Wetware (2017, Art Director).

Frank has collaborated as Associate Scenic Designer on projects at major theatres in the US, Off-Broadway and internationally, including La Jolla Playhouse, The Cleveland Playhouse, Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center, Toneelgroep Amsterdam, Kentucky Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera and New York Stage & Film.

Frank has taught in the Theatre & Film Programs at Marlboro College and NYU/Playwrights Horizons Theatre School.
Frank graduated from New York University and is a member of Wingspace Theatrical Design. He lives and works in New York City.
