LORYN PRETORIUS is a wig and Makeup Designer and Adornment Historian based in New York City. She is the resident wig and makeup designer for the Manhattan School of Music, with credits including NINE, Bye, Bye Birdie, The Cunning Little Vixen, Paperboy the Musical, She Loves Me, Sunday in the Park with George, and Sweeney Todd. Loryn also designed for New York City Opera’s world premier of In the Garden of the Finzi-Continis, as well as The Barber of Seville, and La Traviata. For her hometown opera companies, Opera Tampa and St Pete Opera, Loryn has designed Gilbert VS Sullivan and Samson et Dalila, respectively. She has a double bachelor’s in Art History and Anthropology from the University of South Florida, and an MFA in Wig and Makeup Design from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Loryn was professionally mentored by the late Paul Huntley. When not designing, Loryn works as a swing in the hair departments on various broadway productions, and teaches wig making, stage makeup, “Drawing for the Makeup Artist,” and “The Art of Adornment: The history of Hairstyling, Makeup and Body Modification.”
