Kudos to Summit designer TRACY CHRISTENSEN on her beautifully simply, ‘contemporary’ costumes and to hair and makeup designer J. JARED JANAS of Backstage Artistry for their work on Carnegie Hall’s blazingly fresh, ‘energetic’ production of WEST SIDE STORY at the Knockdown Center this past weekend!
“The production, directed by Jackson Gay, has found the soul of this material. Alexander Woodward’s practical set design, in combination with the lighting by Andrew F. Griffin, is a poem unto itself.”
Riverside’s production is directed and choreographed by Mitzi Hamilton, one of the actors in the original A Chorus Line taped sessions and a performer in the Broadway and London productions of the international hit musical for more than a decade.
“Not since Trisha Brown (who announced in 2012 that after 50 years of choreography, she would be making no new dances) have we had a dance-maker who conjures such spells from movement at its purest.”
